GLOBAL WARMING

Global warming is the long-term increase of the planet’s surface temperature and in particular that of the Earth’s atmosphere and the oceans.

This rise in temperature is partly due to natural causes, like solar radiation combined with the natural greenhouse effect of the atmosphere, but also in large part the result of human activity: the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation and intensive farming, for example.

All regions of the world are affected by climate change. The polar ice caps are melting and sea levels are rising. In some regions we are seeing an increase in extreme weather events and more frequent precipitation, while in others there are widespread droughts and unprecedented heatwaves.

This phenomenon is not only impacting on human lives but also on some animal species, which are at risk of extinction: it is important to raise awareness of this issue because we can all make a positive contribution by acting more responsibly.
