The two voluminous patch pockets on the front of this shirt are inspired by cargo trouser pockets: functionality and capacity are always two distinctive features of the military world!

The history of cargo trousers began in the 1930s when the British Army realised the need for a more modern and practical uniform. Initially, the trousers became more functional with the addition of two large, convenient pockets: one for maps, just above the left knee and a smaller one for dressings on the right hip.

The term cargo literally means loaded, so these are trousers that can carry all kinds of objects. Nowadays, cargo pockets are made with accordion pleats for greater capacity, and closed by a flap fastened with press studs, magnets or Velcro.
